General Information

Boyaca is one of 32 departments in Colombia. 
The department name comes from the Muisca language.
Boyaca meaning:(Real Manta Region or Cacique Fencing).

The capital of Boyaca is Tunja, with a population of about two hundred thousand habitants.
Boyacá has been the site of great historical events of the country, as was the battle for
independence over the famous bridge of Boyaca, and the battle in the swamp vargas where 
Grenadian soldiers faced the Spanish troops.





LOCATION OF BOYACA


Boyaca is located in the central eastern part of the country, or on the eastern part of the Colombian Andes ( coordillera oriental)

Located in the northern hemisphere. It ranges between 4 ° and 7 ° North.Longitudinally Boyacá is located west of the Greenwich meridian between 71 ° and 74 °.


Bordered on the west by Antioquia and Caldas,in the Eastward with Casanare and Arauca
In the south with the departments of Cundinamarca and Meta.In the northern and northeastern with Santander, Norte De Santander and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.







GEOGRAPHY AND WEATHER

The department of Boyaca is divided in13 provinces, a Border district, and a special management area. Composed of 123 municipalities, including the capital of the department: Tunja.

Boyacá presents all types of climates. As in geography we can find part of the valley of the Magdalena River, the mountainous region of the Andes, the cundiboyacense plateau and the entrance to Plain piedmont.





In boyacá we find heights from 500 meters above sea level to 5500 meters.
And their temperatures range from the highest in 35 °C,  to freezing 
temperatures.
